CANTERNO LAKE

It is the largest karstic lake in Lazio, at an altitude of 538 meters and 5 kilometers far away from Fiuggi. Its surface is .6 square meters with a 5-kilometer perimeter, and it is 13-25 meter deep. Apart from Lazio’s artificial lakes, Canterno lake is among the youngest in the region. The lake used to suffer from sudden loss of its waters due to high pressure. However, the recently built electric plant has put an end to the problem.

What to see:

In addition to Fiuggi north of the lake, on its western side lie the ruins of Old Porciano Castle.

How to reach the lake:

From Rome take Highway A1 towards Naples and get off at Anagni. Then, continue for Fiuggi. Before getting to Fiuggi, follow directions for Fumone. The lake is on the left side.
