FIBRENO LAKE

It is very close to Abruzzo National Park from the mountains of which it is fed. Its waters, trapped through numerous valleys, end in Ciociaria. Due to its long shape it has been considered somewhat between a lake and a river. It is 30 meters large and 45 meters deep, from which originates the river also called Cicero River as it runs by what used to be the Roman orator’s real estate before joining Liri. In the middle of it lies a small island called Rota, which is made of algae and, therefore, moves according to the wind.

What to see:

It is an area full of abbeys and lovely small villages, which are worth seeing. Casamari abbey and Trisulti Charterhouse deserve special attention.

How to reach the lake:

From Rome take Highway A1 towards Naples, get off at Frosinone and follow directions to Sora. From there take SS82 until Posta Fibreno. The lake is nearby.
