ST. JOHN INCARICO LAKE

It is one of many Lazio’s artificial lakes, and is created from Liri river. Located where Sacco and Liri rivers merge, it is at the bottom of the northern side of the Ausoni-Aurinci mountains, at an altitude of 80 meters above sea level. Its surface is 1.2 square kilometers and it is 2 kilometers long after the turn. Its width varies, but its maximum extension is 800 meters. Its irregular shape is due to the dam that stops Liri right after the turn. The river’s perimeter is 9 kilometers.

What to see:

Not far from the lake lie Pastena caves. Famous is the nearby Montecassino Abbey, which is the area’s main tourist attraction.

How to reach the lake:

From Rome take Subway A1. Get off at Ceprano and then follow directions for Saint John Incarico and the small village of Isoletta. From there follow directions to the lake.
